apparently so is porsche - they never responded to my formal service request…I am at a loss to understand that
I’ve been using an 18kW EVSE with my Taycan for a little over 2 years (26k miles). The EVSE (Watzilla) failed once early on, but otherwise, no real issues with charging.I hope this option from Porsche is solid. Again, it’s not really necessary, but definitely a nice thing to have especially in colder climates
80 amps is no big deal with appropriately sized wire. 1000 amps is no big deal with appropriately sized wire. 4 amps will fry undersized wire. The point is, it’s the sizing, not the amps. Taycan is perfectly fine with 80A. There are several suggestions in other threads for 19.2kW EVSE.it’s interesting that Tesla did away with the 80amp charger, and their wall chargers are now capped at 48. Might have something to do with 3 melted charge cables and ports I went through….maybe.
i mean, wouldn't you think this is a faulty unit, breaker, sensor, software.. something? -- have you tried another unit? just curious.apparently so is porsche - they never responded to my formal service request…

i own two porsche pmcc’s and both behave the samei mean, wouldn't you think this is a faulty unit, breaker, sensor, software.. something? -- have you tried another unit? just curious.
i would think this is a thermal issue but not if the amperage has no effect on the issue. then i might think software. firmware. but. clearly you know what you are doing, dave, and i assume all this has been thought of. *shrug*. pita. hate it when something just doesn't work right. in addition to curtailing the 'getting things done' instinct, it also tweaks the ocd. grrr.
Agreed.80 amps is no big deal with appropriately sized wire. 1000 amps is no big deal with appropriately sized wire. 4 amps will fry undersized wire. The point is, it’s the sizing, not the amps. Taycan is perfectly fine with 80A. There are several suggestions in other threads for 19.2kW EVSE.
Yeah, I’m worried that Porsche may not continue with it too based on low usage, but I hope they continue to offer it because I will continue to spec it.and they phased out the 80amp based on usage data etc. but either way sucks for me
Agree. My wife forgets all of the time (it’s her DD). But she also loses her phone at least once a day. The number of times I’ve gone out to the car at 15% charge or less is silly. So, faster at home charging if I have a small amount of time before I have to leave helps too. it’s easy for others to dismiss this as our fault or that it’s not a real problem, but it continues to happen so….19.2kW (or 18 for me) is nice to have for this reason (in addition to others).or if you forget to charge night before
Probably a good addition with a new build. Our local Porsche service center quoted me $2400 for the part and $3500 to install the 19.2 KW on-board charger.Hello,
I am currently using a Tesla with Adair wall charger.
I am now “building” a Taycan 4 cross turismo.
I am planning to install a wall charger (similar to Tesla) either the Porsche one or a 3rd party. - don’t t want to use just the plug plus I keep it outside in the driveway.
I am trying to decide if I should add the $1,680 19.2 Kw on- board charger to my build.? Does it make a significant difference? It seems useful but not sure.
Please advise.
Thank you in advance.
As I said, above, I would definitely do it. It’s great to have the flexibility, even if you decide not to put in a 19.2 kW charger right away.Probably a good addition with a new build. Our local Porsche service center quoted me $2400 for the part and $3500 to install the 19.2 KW on-board charger.
you'll be fine…honestly you will.I checked and unfortunately I’m locked and too far into the process to make any changes.
