Yes for long range trips it has been useful. Having more hp is always pleasing :) should help with resale value as well

Thank you. One clarification -- is the extra weight a good thing? Doesn't sound like it is worth the extra 50 hP or certainly the extra mileage
176lbs for 50hp...that's double the horsepower to weight ratio compared to a normal car. If that is your sticking point, I wouldn't hold back. Once you have the car, if you don't have the extra this provides, it's gonna be one of those "I wish I'd checked that box" moments.

Look at it like this - I don't think there is a single comment on the forum from someone complaining about the waste of money the Performance Battery option was to them.

Remember that Porsches guidelines for regular charging is only up to 85% so without Performance battery you are looking at not that much range. And with 20”/21” wheels, even less.

For added range, performance and resale value, I definitely think it’s worth it.

And lets not forget temperature and headwinds.

That doesnt appear to be an instrumented test like C&D who ran 11.7 at 120.

I'd like proof in the form of real world 1/4 or 60-130. 12.5% more power when not in overboost is significant.

Happy to find an empty stretch of road if there are any regular battery owners in my area, for scientific purposes ;)

All. Getting the Taycan 4S. Is the performance battery worth $5k? Seems like you only get another 22 miles of range. Horsepower?
I chose the larger battery. Range anxiety for me is a 'real' thing..........it shouldn't be but it is. For whatever reason the larger battery makes me feel better even though in reality, as many others have commented, you don't need it. I would probably agree that I didn't make an entirely logical decision (but then someone explain to me why spending $140,000+ on a car is logical) but I would do it all over again............as I would purchase my car all over again. And as daveo4EV says........not many people complain about having too much range.

It wouldn't be considered negligible by anybody who knows about cars!

Lower weight improves everything, cornering braking, tyre wear, energy consumption. If there wasn't a power increased associated with the weight in this case it would give better acceleration too.

FWIW 10kg makes a F1 car 0.35 secs a lap slower on average the difference between fastest and also ran, so weight actually makes more difference than most people realise.

OTOH for most drivers the only time they will use 100% of the performance in a straight line.

It is probably most important in an emergency braking situation.

170lbs is about the weight a average adult male (non-American :giggle:).. I hope the people saying it's too much weight only ever drive alone... then why get a 4 door car? Hmm.

To put it perspective:
A Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo with 21" wheels and performance plus battery has less range than a Taycan RWD sedan with 20" wheels and the performance battery.

So more powerful and heavier models need the extra big battery just to have a decent minimum range. The RWD compensates for that with higher efficiency.
To me it is a must have it the more powerful and heavier models, because there you go below the range you typically need to comfortably to a roadtrip (time between stops). But for the RWD it does not matter. The small battery is big enough for most people.
Like I noted in another post: if you do a roadtrip that is significantly longer than the range of the battery, you do not gain much time with the bigger battery. (about 10min in 8 hours). It all comes down to charging speed and efficiency. Not the capacity of the battery.

In reality it is 'only' 40km/25 miles extra. And only 0,1 second faster. So the difference is not that relevant anyway.

The real cost of these additional battery cells is around 2000 euro (including additional BMS and wiring costs) So it isn't a great deal either.

To me, it is not worth 6000 euro to save a few minutes per year on a roadtrip. But it depends on how much you will roadtrip and where (are there a lot of fast chargers or not). So I understand it can make sense for some customers.
