As other folks have said the glass does create issues, my dealer installed a K40 (Radar and Laser), very neat installation, two detectors hidden under the front scope and a special license plate holder.
Something to be mindful of, K40 routinely fails on laser jamming when tested by independent groups. It's popular with dealers and installers because of their wholesale model - not because they're good. Be cautious if you're leaning on the laser ability.

Not sure I understand what you're talking about. Included in the premium package is "Thermally and sound insulated glass" and there is no other option I see for a different variation of Thermally and sound insulated glass. When you select the Premium Package, the one option on the list gets auto selected.

I think they changed the contents of the Premium Package. I did not want the thermally & noise insulated glass for the reasons mentioned above. I had a heart attack when I saw this posting. I checked my build sheet. My Premium Package did not include the T&N insulated glass (thankfully):

Actually, you just sparked a thought so I checked the configurator... we're seeing differences in the model. I have a Turbo and you have a 4S. The Premium Package is different between them.

Here is the 4S premium package compared to the screen shot I posted previously for the Turbo.
  • Fixed glass panoramic roof
  • Surround view
  • Storage package
  • Ionizer
  • Lane Change Assist (LCA)
  • LED-Matrix Design Headlights incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS+)
  • Seat Ventilation (front)
  • Power Seats (14-way) with Memory Package
  • BOSE® Surround Sound System

Yes be very careful of the K40. My dealer also suggested that I install the K40 and I explained to him that it cannot jam any of the current laser guns (it didn't even do a good job when it was first introduced years ago). Here is a link from Vortex Radar of last year's best and worst laser jammers.

So the good news is that the T&N Insulated Glass is not part of the Premium Package for the 4S.

To control the heat in Georgia, I am planning to have the windows tinted with a non-metallic nano ceramic film that rejects 90% of the infrared radiation. It will not interfere with the radar detectors or toll passes. You can even get some with decent IR rejection properties from films that are almost tintless (for the front windshield to allow full visibility). The IR rejection property is much more important than the darkness of the tint.

Can you provide any photos, especially the special license plate holder? Thx

Here you go, whilst there’s lots of debate on capability, the latest model seems fairly effective from recent experience!! Obviously it’s hard Installed.

Where is the head unit for the dash?..........excuse my ignorance, I have Val 1s w/remotes in all our cars.
Its hidden behind the dash, two blue LED lights installed in top of steering column indicate direction, all alerts are voice and tone, with a remote for mute, config etc...I did not want anything to be in sight.

Thanks........very poor info on K40's site.
So the lights tell you right-left or what?........is there a mute button somewhere to dismiss or acknowledge an alert?

I don't want to beat the dead horse but K40 is a really bad investment. Here's an example of testing that was recently done by a group of enthusiasts... no sponsors, no giveaways, no loaner devices. Just a group of dudes that have the gear becuase it's their hobby and like to see how they shape up. They checked a k40 setup along with escort, ALPriority, Stinger, and TMG. Ranking on performance was ALP, Stinger, TMG, Escort, and K40. The k40 was the only system that actually didn't even 'see' some of the laser hits. This is what has been seen time and again on the k40. And the labor is not any less to install than an ALP as an example. ALP and Stinger are generally regarded as the leaders in that space. One is the k40 result and the other is ALP with the TX head (proprietary setup which helps with DragonEye guns)

Key to the acronyms:
Red = bad. Didn't even see it
Pink = bad means they got a speed reading from a long way out with the distance noted
light green = good meaning the distance noted is so close that you likely slowed down long ago
Green = good... JTG means 'jam to gun'. This means that even up close, for those police handsets, they couldn't get a reading.

I've personally tested my setup with a guy that had a couple of police LIDAR units... it's a bundle of fun but holy cow is it sobering. You realize just how accurate and lethal these things are at a distance. You can pick a car coming over a hill way down the road and zap him for speed in a single hit. It's crazy. It's over before you even know you got tagged.

Key for LIDAR jammers is they need frequent software updates b/c it's a cat and mouse game. I have a system built into my other car that is outdated and the manufacturer stopped doing updates sadly. So I've got to make a new choice on the Taycan. Stinger is the best looking but most expensive by a mile and not as good as ALP. I'm not sure yet how to do the ALP placements so haven't ventured into it yet.

good luck with whatever you decide. Just be mindful of the test data. If you live in an area, as an example, that uses DragonEye LIDAR guns, your options are limited as ALP is the only shop that's built the hardware and algorithm to jam it.

Unfortunately in the UK jammers are illegal. The cops over here will absolutely prosecute offenders and it can result in jail time. Think I’ll stick to detection and Waze.

Yeah, more and more states in the US are making them illegal as well. Which is actually one thing that makes me hesitate to install them on the Taycan. My luck, they'd pass a law where I live 4 monnths later.

Just remember, laser detection means you got caught. Sadly. Good luck out there!

I know if I was a cop and the gun displayed an error I’d pull over the driver to take a look at the car. If he found a jammer. Oh no!
