Punched. April 28 2021. So about 3 months down on warranty.
In the past I bought a demo, untitled Cayenne S. I got a huge discount, the sales contract still listed it as a new car, and to my surprise Porsche NA sent me a letter with an extended warranty for 6 years/100k miles because the vehicle was originally purchased by the dealership as a demo.

Sounds like you got a great deal! I would love to be able to get that but unfortunately these days with the inventory as it is, no one is willing to go above and beyond.

Australian market is very different - prices much higher, stock really tight and long lead times - but I would have no hesitation if you like the colour and specification, especially as 'new' builds being delivered have some options either not installed or deleted. If there are any after market items you would like often dealers will through this in as well - window tint, luggage liner, valve caps, etc.

an alternative to a big discount is to ask the dealer to certify the car and sell it as certified pre-owned which practically means you get +2 years of warranty. This can either improve resale value or if you keep the car will be covered in case of costly repairs between years 4 and 6.

Honestly i was hoping they'd already applied all updates and tested it out. When I asked on the phone the guy simply said the car is recall free. I don't think I'm going to take his word on that lol
If you message me the VIN, i can check to see if the campaigns have been done.

FWIW I just took delivery of a 2020 demo that was 20% off. It had 40 miles and I'm the first to register to it so qualifies for the credit. With the discount, it was still less than anything else I could find online.

Hi,

I have a 4S on order for myself but we've been going back and forth for a car for my wife. I found a 2020 model in a color she likes. The dealer says the car is new but since they are not supposed to have new 2020 models in stock, as per Porsche terms, it's listed as 'Used'. Is that plausible?

Secondly, they're offering a 10% discount on MSRP for this heavily optioned car. Is that too low for a car that's been sitting on the lot for a long time (production date May 2020).

Lastly they say it was punched as 'in-service' in April 2021 and that's when the factory warranty started. Car has less than 50 miles on it and lists with no previous owner. It's also finance or purchase only, no lease.

I'm just wondering if this is worth considering and at what discount?

Thoughts appreciated.
I had a recent case like this when I bought mine 2020 with same about of mileage. It was a demo car, PPF in the car, fully loaded but warranty already punched. It was a new car, so I get the credit and the warranty I asked for them to CPO the car, so I got 2 extra years on it.

The price was almost 15-17% off the MSRP, so same price as a not so loaded 2020 used car, but I was getting a new car, CPOed and with PPF, so it made sense for me.

For what it's worth - working with dozens of dealerships (we do their marketing - but also get a lot of insights from calls with the dealerships and Porsche NA), used-car resale values have skyrocketed because of the inventory crunch. While I helped some get 15%+ off 2020's and 6-8% off new-builds just a year ago, the market has tightened significantly. 0-2% off is the national average on new builds currently - and that includes waiting a few months for an allocation.

I've seen a few 2020's sell for 5-10% off MSRP in the last 30-60 days, which seems insane to me. My thought process would be that if you can wait for 2022's to arrive, they'll have to discount the left-over 2020's even more - but who knows in this market. Most people I've spoken to believe the inventory crunch will last through Q4 and might even spill over into 2022.

Also, aside from the general advise of not buying a first MY car, the 2021's had some small updates that in my eye's at least made it worth while. Personally, I did a custom build for a 2021 vs. taking a huge discount for a 2020.

Just to update my OP - the max discount I could get them to do was 15%. The dealer has also offered, alternatively, an allocation for a new 2022 4S with a freeze date of 09/06/21 and a 3% discount off the custom build MSRP if I place the order.

I think we are probably going to go for the newer car, a bit of a wait I'm sure but it will have the exact specs we want.

That 3% discount a PTS build?

I agree that deals seem to be rare. I had a custom build for a ‘22 at 3% off MSRP, but then saw a demo 2021 Turbo S. Offered 16.5% off and dealer took it. Technically it’s “used” but never registered, so I get all the rebates and only lose about 3 months of warranty. With the rebates, it’s +20% off. I was going to order a 4S, but very happy I splurged for this one. An amazing machine!

Unfortunately, no. The PTS build would have no discounts but more importantly, my rep said the delivery date will be pushed by atleast another 4 months over and above the non-PTS build time. I'm not sure how accurate that is. We are still debating re doing PTS vs time.
