Baseline for HV Battery SoH Performance

Hi folks, I was not focusing on SoH until I run Carscanner Pro with my OBDII dongle, used for ABRP usually. Than fount this thread.

Taycan 4S, Cross Turismo. Cold climate.

1) Factory SoH: Unknown
2) Current SoH: 93,98%
3) Current mileage: 30183 km / 18 755 miles
4) kWh DC charging: 25% - 29% (I have no total kWh
5) Build date: Q4 2023

I did some statistics from my last 1000km trip (back and forth). I multiplied the trip consumption x distance driven and compared it with SoC reduction x capacity netto. I have equal values at capacity netto assumed for 87-88kWh one way, and 83kwh (!) on the way back after a week.
A month before I did same equation and then my net capacity was 83kWh (212km driven with avg consumption 35,1kWh/km, SoC drop from 95% to 5%).

I realize the SoC percentages are not very precise but I'm surprised how they float. They are altered by temperature: cold AC charging underestimate the SoC. The car left with warm battery 18% SoC can have only 15% in the cold (0 C) morning.

Thanks for sharing - great to get more data!

Seasonal variations in SoC very real indeed and temperature in respect average climate a big factor on Soh degradation (albeit still relatively small).

Note for ref that whilst the factory quotes 83KwH of 'usable' or accessible battery for range, real world testing suggests that it is closer to 86+KwH (see Post #1 for more info).

I will add your inputs to the chart shortly (BTW I also aways update Post #1 with new data rather than repeatedly add the chart to thread posts).

@ciaranob - I have two new readings to add to your database.

1) unknown
2) 90.93% (significant drop from 92.33% at 7736 miles. The last reading added to your data).
3) 8095 (done on 10/26/23)
4) none since last update (will try and estimate lifetime for next update)
5) 12/22

After the October reading I ran the battery down to 6%, let it sit and then recharged to 97%. SoH reading improved.

2) 92.58%
3) 8870 (1/19/24)
4) none since above

Looks like I inundated you more than I remember. Didn't realize you had logged the readings at 7898 & 8576 miles. Mileage and SoH are correct. Not sure what columns 2 & 3 represent but I'll assume they are correct given your attention to detail. Thanks for tracking all this data.

Yep - all your posts are still in this thread :)

2nd column is km equivalent and 3rd a calculation for another chart not shown (about efficiency per Soh pt).

I should have done that a long time ago.
It made me look in more details at the stats and see how often I'm travelling and using DC charge compared to some others.
I also took the time to check all the data collected by Tronity and assign those to the proper charging card and home or not.

would be curious to gather some DC charging kWh energy numbers:
- ideally close to 0-100% SoC
- moderate / battery-saving max charging power to reduce the amount of uncertainty due to intense cooling while charing
- starting with >25°C to reduce the uncertainty due to battery hearting

e.g.:
3-100%, 81,3 kWh, 89% SoH ( if you know it)
anyone? :D

Current SoH: 98.68%
Current Mileage: 425 miles
DC Charging: never yet AFAIK
Build date: Oct 2023
Never been below 20% SoC
Charged to 100% twice that I know of - was delivered that way, and I did it once before figuring out how the timers and profiles work.

So I watched the video on 3 big mistakes for charging. The one I found interesting was better to do a lot of little charges than letting your battery drain and do bigger charges.

I’m not going to operate in the 40-60 percent range. Seems pointless. But my question is whether it’s better to do a bunch of little chargers from let’s say 60 - 85 (as recommended in manual) or let it drop down to the 20s or 30s before charging back to 85 percent? Is it fine for the the battery to always be in that higher charge state?

4) kWh DC charging: never dc charged (unsure if dealer ever did one but I doubt it!)

Surprised by the low SoH! I also drive like a grandma (partly a function of the traffic around me!). I always keep it 20-75% and never fast charge. Maybe I should keep the lower bound higher?
