Only issues I’m aware of are 12v battery issues and some PMCC overheating issues. Only worrying moment I had was first day of ownership driving along M27 in fast lane car went into range mode (I had not set it up at this point) and slowed me to 60 mph. People behind must have thought I was being a right knob. Anyway if that was me I’d take the car back and drive it as normal, if the fault re-appears then yes take the car back to the dealer and get refunded your money, remember if your within a 30 day period of owning the car and the original fault has happened then by law you are allowed full refund, but only after you have given the garage one attempt to fix it. If two weeks later the fault re-appears then your 30 day consumer rights law is still valid. I know this because we had a Mercedes GLE coupe that did something identical. Ended up three months later with full refund and that included all road fund license as well.
Also when it happens get a video, I know it’s not what your thinking of when broken down, but legally you can show the fault is there and means that the dealership cannot dispute it.
Thing is we are driving essentially P.Cs on wheels and sometimes these faults just need a hard reset to clear and continue.....
I too have experienced range mode defaulting back to a lower speed, in my case it was 55Mph. During a 2 week period ( I use the car daily, around 70 miles per day), the issue occurred around 3 times. I had my dealer look into it, but they said they couldn't identify the issue, even though I had sent them video evidence.

After the car came back from my dealers, it happened several more times and then, touch wood, it hasn't happened again (been around 4 weeks now).

From what I figured out. Range mode failed to load properly when my car started up, which resulted in range mode reverting to it's defaults (55Mph). Also the range mode settings page becomes greyed out and won't open. The only way to resolve it was to leave the car overnight (which I guess the car completely shuts down after xx amount of time).

Well I have reluctantly decided to reject my car as I don't think it is safe. It's no good spending this kind of money on a car and every time you get in it you are thinking is this going to happen again? Is it safe? It's a real shame as I was loving the car before this happened.

I hope this is just a case of a few bad cars but I think Porsche really need to figure out what is going wrong here and on which cars and figure out a fix before someone has a nasty accident.

I hope you all continue to enjoy your cars and don't suffer from this issue.

That is really sad Raedwald - but I totally agree with your decision. You are never going to enjoy the vehicle and It is too much of a luxury purchase to have that type of feeling.

I had my 4s for 10 days when out of the blue I lost all power in the car and a red warning comes up saying to pull over and park the car. I was in the outside lane with a car on my inside and I had no acceleration so all I could do was bring the car to a stop. After stopping the car it would not give me any power to move. I'm stuck in the outside lane with traffic trying to get past me. I'm about to call for help when I decide to try turning off the car and turning it back on again. Luckily it comes back to life and I am on my way again and the car seems ok.

I call the dealership and they organise for it to be collected so they can figure out what caused it. After 10 days, and after they have escalated it to Germany, I am told they have been instructed to clear the fault and reset it and it should now be fine. I don't find this particularly convincing and I am trying to figure out what to do next.

Other than this experience massively taking the gloss of the experience of having a new car, being stuck in the outside lane was a very unpleasant experience and I still have doubt lingering in my mind that I'm not convinced this will have fixed it.

Part of me thinks I should return it and get a refund. Part of me thinks the engineers in Germany would not let it be released again if they thought it might happen again.

I would be interested in what others would do and if anyone knows of this occurring to anyone else. Thanks for your thoughts.
This happened to me too. the car coasted for quite a while so it was fairly easy to pull over safely. I was concerned to read that you had to stop in the outside lane - which sounds very scary!. Did you have the car set to auto regeneration? I had mine turned off so it coasted ok but I can imagine with the auto regen it would have stopped quite quickly. Would be interested to hear?

I’ve had this problem too (4S battery +) Just exited a village and accelerated once past the derestricted signs. Red warning light comes on saying there is no power and I should pull over and stop. Car was coasting but no power. The lane was quiet so no drama to pull over and stop. If it coasts then might still be ok even if it happens on motorway. Anyway, got out of the car, locked it, unlocked it and it was all fine again.

but on a £90k car this is just not acceptable. Good advice above to photo if happens again.

will report back if it does
Same thing happened again last night (the day after it happened the first time). Have booked it in with a dealer

Yes that's exactly the fault I had. It will be interesting to hear what your dealer says because all mine did was clear the fault and reset it. They said they had never heard of anyone experiencing this twice.

When did you take delivery of your car? Is it a MY21 4S?

Mine arrived at the dealer around the week of 12th October and I picked it up the following week.

Raedwald,:

The car isn't mine. It's a demonstrator kindly lent to me while mine is being built. I think it's probably a summer 2020 car. Hopefully our MY21's dont have this problem.

there is no evidence this problem is tied to a particular model year…

UPDATE - car been to dealer. The car computer had recorded no errors (!) Needed a software update which they've done. So far it's been fine. Don't know for sure whether the problem is fixed

I picked up my 4S Dec 2/12 and same evening I had the exact same experience as you describe above - not in the outside lane though, but on my home street. I sat in the middle of the street and the car grounded to a full stop and wouldn’t go back into D. I switched the car off and on and it started up again. Yesterday the car was dead in my driveway with the same electrical error message in the display. Later on the alarm sounded and couldn’t be turned off with the remote key. The doors couldn’t open either. I called Porsche Assist and they sent a guy from a road assistance company. He was not a Porsche guy but it turned out he had restarted a lot of Taycans recently with exactly the same problem (!!) The 12v battery was dead (but not flat) and the car came alive again when he connected it to a booster. So in other words, this is a problem that Porsche is aware of and to be honest I’m very surprised and disappointed that they sent me out on the road knowing that their cars suffer from an electrical issue that could be potentially life threatening if the car just stops at high speed in traffic. This is a disaster in my opinion and I have notified Porsche that I’m not happy.

This is terrifying, I’m due to collect my car before Christmas and now I’m having second thoughts due to safety concerns for myself and my family.

File an NHTSA complaint with your VIN. If you get into an accident because of this issue and you need to go against Porsche it might help..
There is already 3 complaints for stalling.

Why would someone from Denmark file a complaint with the NHTSA?
